That’s a wrap for our 2025-2026 Civic League meetings. Our final event is this Saturday at 0900 when we meet at the pump house on Jack Frost and Tern to do trash pick-up at the ends of Jack Frost and Shelton Road. Grabbers, yellow vests, and trash bags will be provided. Please come treasure hunt with your neighbors!
We had a pretty packed schedule of speakers starting in November with Dominion Energy representatives discussing their rate increase request to the SCC (an increase was approved, but not the amount requested). In January we had an informative presentation from the Hampton Roads Sanitation District and Virginia Beach Public Utilities. March brought us an overview and update on the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel Expansion project (and we appreciate one of our neighbors—Ben—putting his IT skills to the test to help with the computer issues), and for our last meeting in May, we hosted the Virginia Beach Real Estate Assessor’s office. If these weren’t enough, after a couple of years of hard work from two of our board members, we successfully secured grant money for new Lake Shores signs at entrances to our neighborhood (thanks Dodie and Rick!). The current ones are showing their age and weather damage.
In the nearer term, you can expect our annual National Night Out event in August. Details to follow. If anyone has a specific request or suggestion for programs during for 2026-2027, please send it to me at [email protected]. We’ll resume on September 15th at 7pm in the SPES cafeteria. Until then, everyone have a great summer, stay cool, and be careful.
